Know exactly where you stand-photos may show flash reflections-up for bids is a rather rare, clean & well executed original antique (pre-1935) hand woven native american indian flat basket/plate (? ). Many many hours were involved in not only creating the form but its colorful & intricate design as well. It's unsigned & tribal association is unknown. With the numerous photos provided you can see that it's in very well preserved & uncleaned condition. As far as i can tell it has never been cleaned or altered-only displayed by its previous owner's family in maine who had owned it for years! The surface is dusty and/or faded. The reverse shows its actual & brilliant original colors a bit clearer. There are no odors or breaks and as far as i cna determine no repairs. No loose or frayed areas! It is supple & flexible-not brittle & has retained its shape extremely well thru the years. Very finely woven (reed?
) but that's a guess. It measures 6.5 in diameter. I leave ti to you experts to decide the finer points. All i can say is that i know high quality & expertise when i see it. Please view all of the photos below as i will never have you make a decision based on a single picture. How can you possibly know what you're buying based on a weak one photo effort? I never force insurance costs on anyone. I recommend & always offer it as an option but will not be responsible for damage, loss or rifling onec the parcel is shipped.
