Finely Woven Round Vintage Makah Nootka Indian Basket
Up for auction is a nice round and finely woven makah indian beargrass and cedar bark basket with a lid and a nice patina. The basket would have been intended for hte tourist trade during the early to middle years of the last century. It is nicely woven, with a series of four dark water birds around the perimeter. The ldi has a red and black swirled geometric pattern circling the start, and the outer edge of the top has a red band, matching the red band near the bottom of the base. The start is the traditional checkerboard made of cedar bark, as is the inner rim.
A very nice vintage makah basket! hTe basket, as noted, is small and finely woven, measuring 2â½ across at the rim and 1â¾ deep. This nice little basket is ni near-perfect shape. The pretty colors are still clear and very little faded, and the basket has no breaks whatsoever, or any real damage at all. The waterfowl and red bands are still nicely visible.
And it has a nice golden patina, and also retains its symmetrical round shape. This authentic older makah basket will make a terrific addition to someone's collection of vintage northwest coast indian baskets. I accept paypal, cashiers checks, money orders, and personal checks, although the shipping on an item will be delayed for the check to clear fi a personal check is used. I will be happy to provide discounted shipping for multiple items.
